Personally, I do not think the Smiley Cheng book is important to have, as the course has changed in topic order and emphasis, as well as philosophy since that book was produced. It is now out of print, so don't go to any real effort to find it.
However, if you have the
Smiley Cheng Multiple-Choice Problem Set book for
Stat 1000 there are additional questions you can look it if you wish to have more practice.
Much more important is that you have worked through the two Sample Exams the department has provided. Here is a link to those exams and my answer keys to them:
Sample ExamsNote that I am not providing you with the old exams in the Cheng book. They are copyright, so are only available to those of you who have a copy of that book.
Note that solutions for these exams (but not the questions) are in Appendix C of my Basic Statistics 1 book (volume 1). If you have an older edition
of my book, the solutions to the midterms may be in a different appendix, and you may be missing solutions to the more recent exams.
Remember, these tests were 1.5 hours long and, because of the omissions, should take you no more than 1 hour to do.
Try doing two exams in 2 hours maximum to practise your timing. Keep an eye on your time. Do two exams and see how long you took. If it took more than two hours, you know you need to
improve.
Treat these as exams. Do not stop for a break, do not use outside aids other than your calculator. If you have trouble, skip the question. Only once you have completed two exams, should you mark yourself and learn from your mistakes.Since most of the questions are fine to look at, I will just tell you what questions to
omit instead.
I am listing the exams in reverse order since the more recent exams are
more important.
