Stat 1000: Exam questions from Cheng Multiple-Choice Book

Published: Thu, 11/07/13

As you prepare for your second midterm exam on Nov. 9, make sure that you have gone through the two practise exams they have provided you in the Resources section of Stats Portal. They will give you a very good idea of what your exam will be like.

Here is a link where you can download the Sample Midterms if you haven't found them in StatsPortal.  Note that they do include an answer key on the last page:
Practice Exams

Here are some questions from the Smiley Cheng Multiple-Choice Problem Set book for Stat 1000 if you have it. This book is now out-of-print, so don't worry about it if you don't have a copy.

These old exams are well worth taking a look at as you prepare for your second midterm exam on Nov. 9.  I go through them in reverse order since the more recent exams are probably more like the questions you will see.  Since most of the questions are fine to look at, I will just tell you what questions to omit instead.

But, in the Smiley Cheng book, you can first look at the questions I told you to omit from the midterms when you were preparing for the first midterm exam.  Here is the link to the email I sent at that time.  Now, be sure to do all the questions I told you to OMIT at that time.
Cheng Questions to Prepare for First Midterm

Note that solutions for these exams are in Appendix C of my Basic Statistics 1 book (midterms are in volume 1, finals are in volumes 2 and 3).  If you have an older edition of my book, the solutions to the midterms may be in a different appendix, and you may be missing solutions to the more recent exams.

Try doing two exams in 2 hours maximum to practise your timing.  Keep an eye on your time.  Do two exams and see how long you took.  If it took more than two hours, you know you need to improve.

Treat these as exams.  Do not stop for a break, do not use outside aids other than your calculator.  If you have trouble, skip the question.  Only once you have completed two exams, should you mark yourself and learn from your mistakes.
