Stat 1000: Sample Midterms

Published: Fri, 10/04/13

Please note that there are two Sample Midterms posted in StatsPortal in the Resources section for those of you in the classroom lecture sections of the course.  For some reason, these are not posted for those of you who are taking the course by distance.  It is still not even clear whether or not those of you in distance will be writing a similar exam or, perhaps, a shorter one.  Make sure, if you are in distance, that you contact your prof to clarify what exactly is happening for the first midterm.  If you have an option of writing it on campus or online at home, I strongly recommend you write it on campus.  The online quizzes in the past have been often affected by technical problems, and difficulty with reading the questions and submitting the answers.  I would much rather have a physical exam to write.

By the way, I am almost sure that the midterm exams for Stat 1000 last year were 2 hours long, not just 1.5 hours.  I am therefore surprised to see that your sample midterms still have 40 questions.  You may want to double-check with your prof how long the exam is going to be and how many questions it will have.

Here is a link where you can download the Sample Midterms if you haven't found them in StatsPortal.  Note that they do include an answer key on the last page:
Grant's Midterm Seminar Oct. 5 & 6
I wanted to make sure you are aware that my first midterm exam prep seminar is coming up this weekend of Oct. 5 and 6.  On Oct. 5, I will be covering from my book Lesson 1: Displaying and Summarizing Data and Lesson 3: Designing Samples and Experiments.  On Oct. 6, I will be covering Lesson 2: Regression and Correlation (as well as anything from Lessons 1 and 3 I may still want to discuss) and will also go through a sample midterm exam.

The seminar runs from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm each day, in room 100 St. Paul's College.  You can come to one day for $40 or both days for $60 total.  If you have a coupon, you will be able to come for half-price too.
Note that you do not pay when you sign up for the seminar.  You pay at the door, by cash or cheque to "Grant's Tutoring".  To get more info about the seminar and/or to sign up, click this link:
